Plot Developments
In the morning my sister who has been staying at my place for the greater part of a month will visit a boy in Michigan whom she has liked for a long time, a boy who is both more than a friend and yet less than a significant other. As far as I can tell, they are both very, very fond of each other, but for a variety of reasons, some cute and sigh-inducing, and others less worthy of sympathy and perhaps even infuriating, they have over the last several years only fractionally moved closer together, like two shy, blind turtles, encased in slowly thawing blocks of ice placed hundreds of miles apart, each pointed in the wrong direction. For somebody who up until now has been so reserved in her affections as to have her siblings accuse her of bringing about the destruction of the world were she to ever hold hands with her not-boyfriend, much less engage in outright affection, my sister is making a very brave and bold move to address her longstanding feelings head-on in an act with potentially huge implications. Happy ones, I hope. He is good and worthy and enjoys my full implicit support, even if he is as clueless about girls as she is about boys. One can only hope that between the two of them, they’ll trip and bumble towards something approaching a proper romance by themselves soon—I’m getting tired of pushing.
