“So what is this place we’re going to called?”
“What kind of place is it?”
Um… (snicker) Belgian.
“Really? Wow. Belgian.”
(Barely containing it now) Yeah.
“What’s the food like? I don’t think I’ve ever had Belgian before–”
You know, like waffles.
“Really?”
No, not really. It’s freaking Mexican, Kris!
“Wait, what?”
(Exaggeratedly) La Pasadita!
“Oh. Oh my gosh. (cracking up now) I can’t believe–oh my gosh. I was like, ‘Belgian? That name doesn’t sound French…’
Yeah, Kris. Mexican.

*Funnier when noted that one of us claims proficiency in Spanish. And lived in the Spanish-language dorm in college. And isn’t me.

Even funnier since I always thought Dutch was the preferred language in Belgium, not “That name doesn’t sound French…” Turns out, it’s a little over 50% Dutch and 40% French.
