Who’s still up at 4am, watching the medal ceremony for what was probably the most exciting basketball game he’s seen all year? Yeah, that would be me.
For being a bilingual, foreign-born Asian-American with deep misgivings about his assimilation into American culture, I’m such a homer in international competitions. Sometime around 3am, I probably woke my neighbors up with my hysterical yelling after Kobe hit a huge 3-pointer to put the USA up by 7. I haven’t been this excited about NBA basketball (and let’s not kid ourselves here; 4/5 of the opposing team’s starting lineup had played in the NBA) since Michael and Scottie were winning championships routinely. Thank you, Redeem Team, for making me feel like a 12 year old again. In a good way.
