Equivalence
“Would you ever wait at this bus stop?” she asks, pointing at the lonely bench standing in the shadow of the el tracks in a barren part of town.
Uh, no. Pretty scary, actually.
“Guys really don’t know how much easier you have it. You always have to be so on-your-guard as a woman in the city, especially at night.”
Yeah, but guys have to deal with rejection. Years and years of rejection now, from all kinds of girls.
“What? Girls get rejected, too.”
Yeah, but guys are still expected to initiate the relationship. That is, step up to be rejected. When’s the last time you asked a guy out?
“Um, never?”
My point exactly.
“But girls can still be rejected, all the same.”
Well, guys can’t get pregnant. I guess that’s got to count for something.
“Or have a period. That counts for a lot.”
We have to pay more in car insurance, though.
“Well! That makes it all even, now.”
